A part from the sun and the beach, the municipality of Pollença has other complementary opportunities as excellent restaurants where one can enjoy mallorquin cooking, pubs with wide terraces or shopping in the various commercial establishments. We do not have to forget either activities such as tracking, horse-riding, sailing, golf or trips by sea.
Pollensa has an outstanding role in the world of culture on the island. From the first years in the XXth century Pollença turned into a favourite place for writers who visited the island. Nowadays Pollença continues to enjoy its name in the cultural and artistic world thanks to the public initiatives as the International Music Festival, Pollença’s Museum and to private initiatives as Museum-House Dionís Bennàssar, Martí Vicenç Museum and a great number of Art Galleries
Pollensa, like the rest of the island, reflects in its gastronomy the mediterranean cooking tradition. The area offers a wide range in restaurants, not only in local, but also in international cooking. Some of the most well-known dishes are: pa amb oli (typical brown bread with tomatoes, salt and olive oil), tumbet (fried potatoes, red and green peppers, aubergine and all covered with tomato sauce), arroç brut (rice based soup with meat and spices), trempó (salad with tomatoes, green peppers and onions, salt and olive oil), coques de trempó i verdura (pizza base with the above mentioned salad or green vegetables), panades (meat or peas pies), llom amb col (pork loin with cabbage), porcella (suckling pig) together with a good ice-cream, gató d’ametlles (almond pie) or a good ensaïmada (very typical cake made with lard).
Pollensa enjoys a privileged geographical situation for the nature lovers; trippers will find a large number of alternatives in several spots. The area has a big native botanical wealth which is revealed in different plant communities which go from the characteristic holm-oak wood to the most extents of wild olive tree, shrub, rockrose and palmetto tree (the only European palm tree). The ornithologists are also going to enjoy from some examples of ospreys in the Albufera. 295 hectares of natural reserve complete the wide range of biodiversity.
